christmas tree storage 16 (2)

There are so many innovative storage solutions for just about any item in the home. For some reason Christmas tree storage is still a hassle for most of us. These once-a-year decorations are used in many homes across the globe but there is no really convenient Christmas tree storage system available on the market that I know of.

My gripe begins with my most recent incident with my own Christmas tree storage dilemma. We kept the large decorative item in our garage. The tree came in a huge, awkward cardboard box so we just used that as the container for keeping the decoration out of our way during the rest of the year. This was not a good idea.

I am not a big fan of mice. They are perfectly fine animals when they are outdoors and when they are out of my sight. I don’t like them in my house or on my holiday decorations. We took our decorations out and opened the cardboard Christmas tree storage unit. When we opened the large, awkward box a little grey mouse scampered out and disappeared behind our couch.

My first inclination was to have my husband find and capture the little creature. Killing was not an option. He could set it free. But when the little beast ran over my foot I demanded that he “find it and kill it”. Fortunately, he was able to get the mouse out of the house unharmed.

This whole incident got me wondering what other options we had for Christmas tree storage. We found many bags for sale but these seemed inadequate and equally awkward as the cardboard box. I also don’t like the idea of an arrangement that has so many parts being crammed into a big bag. It just isn’t organized enough for my taste.

Many people use chests for the purpose of keeping seasonal items out of site during the off season. This was not really an option for our small home. If we had the room for a large chest in the house we wouldn’t have to use our garage as a Christmas tree storage unit.

I found that plastic bins with snap-on lids are perfect for this kind of item. However this Christmas tree storage solution does take up a bit more room than the box because I have to divvy up the tree’s branches and trunk into parts but I can organize them a little.

What I would love to see is a plastic container created specifically for Christmas tree storage. This invention would be a welcomed addition to our collection of containers in our garage.
